We designed A Gift From Alexa to provide
financial resources to successful existing programs that meet the following
criteria:
- The program can not provide the best possible treatment without
additional funding
- Additional children can not be accepted due to lack of resources
- The educational facility can not afford to purchase the supplies and
materials it needs for it's students
- State funding does not provide for an effective teacher/student ratio
- More programs which promote inclusions as their goal are needed
In addition, your donation will help us will help us to provide financial
support directly to families who can not afford the additional expenses that
come with having a disabled child. It is our goal to provide funding for:
- Medical expenses that would not otherwise exist if the child were not
disabled
- Supplies and materials necessary for a child's therapy
- Additional hours for home therapy when school is not in session
- Respite services
- Other expenses deemed appropriate
Substantial advances have been made in the treatment of autism over the past
decade. It is sufficient funding, not knowledge or technology that
prevents these children from receiving treatment. Most children who
receive very intensive training will show dramatic improvement and lead
productive lives.
Lastly, it is our goal to build a residential facility for adults. Unfortunately
of the 1 in 150 children diagnosed, many will become adults with autism who
cannot lead independent lives and have nowhere to go. We must plan for this now,
so we are saving and investing part of each year's dinner income for this
challenge.
